SAILED August 29.—Rata, s.s., 375 tons (Vasta), at 5.45 p.m., for Tarakohe. August 30.—Omana, s.s., 1513 ions (Hackworth), 1.15 p.m., for Wellington. IN PORT Kartigi, Ngahau. EXPECTED ARRIVALS John, Onehunga, to-night. Titoki, Westport to-morrow. Alexander, Westport, to-morrow. Kanna, Auckland, early. PROJECTED DEPARTURES. Ngahau, Tauranga, to-night. Titoki, New Plymouth, early. Alexander, Napier, early. Kanna, Wellington, early. Kartigi, Sydney, early. SHIPPING NOTES. The Rata sailed last evening, coal laden, for Tarakohe, Picton and Nelson. The Omana sailed this afternoon for Wellington, Miramar, and Auckland. The Titoki is due to-morrow, from Wellington, via Nelson and Westport, to load coal for New Plymouth and Tarakohe. The Alexander left Nelson yesterday, for Greymouth, via Motueka and Westport. She is due to-morrow, to load coal for Napier. The Kartigi arrived last night from Bluff, to load timber for Melbourne and Adelaide. The Kanna left Auckland yesterday with cargo for Greymouth. On arrival, to-morrow, she will load for Wellington and Miramar. The Ngahau is to sail this evening, for Tauranga, with coal. The John is due this evening from Onehunga, to load 'coal for Dargaville.

Mr James C. Farrant, who has served with the Union Steam Ship Company in various capacities, chiefly as steward, since 1888, will retire at the end of this month. Mr Farrant has filled positions in many of the company’s vessels, and was chief steward of the Wanaka, Kini, Koonya, and Pukaki, and was in the Manuka when she was wrecked in December, 1929. He intends taking a holiday in Sydney aftei' he retires. OTHER PORTS. LONDON, August 29. Sailed: Huntingdon from Monte Video, City of Winchester from Newport News. SUVA, August 30. Sailed: H.M.S. Laburnum, for Auckland. MELBOURNE, August 30. Arrived: Huia, from Greymouth. Sailed, Waitaki, for Bluff.
