Mrs W. E. Reynolds was an out ward passenger by to-day’s express.

Mrs J. Rose and Miss Gladys Rose hi£t by to-day’s express, on their return to Christchurch.

The late Lord Novar left a personal estate of £213,807, all to his wife, for life (stated a London cablegram).

Mr H. Lovell, of Westport, left by to-day’s express, en route to Dunedin, where the death of his father has occurred, after an operation.

Mr D. Dooling, of the Post and Telegraph Department, Ashburton, and formerly Postmaster nt Kumara, left by to-day’s express.

Miss Jean Hutton, of the Otago University, and formerly of Greymouth, is the guest of Mr and Mrs J. W. Dickson.

Mr A. A. Adams, who has made a good recovery from his recent operation, was discharged from Ngarana Private Hospital to-day.

Mrs E. Gunn, and Mrs T. Roberts, who have been on a visit to GreymouSi, left on return to Wellington, this morning.

A Sydney cablegram announced that Doctor W. Hellenthal, the now German Consul for Sydney, arrived there by the liner Oronsay yesterday. He is a distinguished lawyer, soldier and airman. He fought with the Gorman Air Force on the Eastern and Western Fronts during the Great War.

A Sydney message stated that Mr. James Payne has been appointed Assistant Trade Commissioner in New Zealand in -association with Mr. Nesbitt. Mr. Payne has had extensive experience at the Commonwealth Treasury and in othei’ Government departments.

The death has occurred at Oamaru of Mr Edward A. Atkinson, 79. the first white child born in North Otago. For many years he was in the Government service as Valuer at Dunedin. He retired 15 years ago, and had been Oamaru Borough Valuer since.—Press Assn.

The death of Mr. A. C. Major, at the age of 56 is recorded at Masterton. He was the founder of the “Wairarapa Age” newspaper, and. formerly was managing proprietor and first editor. In later years, Mr. Major entered the legal profession, practising in Masterton. He was chairman of the Board of Governors and Trustees of St. Matthew’s Collegiate School. —Press Assn.

The wedding was celebrated in the Westport Methodist Church yesterday of Mary Eveline, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hayward, of Denniston, and Douglas Saunders, son of Mr. and Mrs. Loder, of Otago. Rev. N. P. Larsen performed the ceremony. The, bride was given away by her father, and was attended by Miss Jane Booth, of Greymouth, as bridesmaid. Mr. William Atkinson, of Westport, acted as groomsman. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Elite Tea Rooms.

A State funeral was accorded Sir Edgeworth David, to-day (stated a Sydney cablegram). A service was conducted at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, where the body has been lying jn state this morning. The cortege, including military units and University representatives in full academic dress, then proceeded to the crematorium. Mr Stewart represented the Federal Government, Mr Stevens and - other Ministers represented the State Government. Representatives of the Governor-General and the State Governor also attended.

The death occurred this morning at her residence, Preston Road, of Mrs Sarah Jane Gardner, at the age of 38 years. Deceased, who had been ailing for the past two years, came to New Zealand, with her late husband, five years ago, and had since resided in Greymouth. She was a native of Stanley, Durham, England. Her late husband predeceased her two years ago. Besides her father, Mr Hugh Wood, she leaves four children. Mrs M. Best, of Thompson Street, is a sister, and Mr J. Wood is a brother. There is also a brother and a sister in England. The late Mrs Gardner and her late husband were members of the Salvation Army. The funeral leaves her late residence, Preston Road on Saturday afternoon, for the Karoro Cemetery.
