N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. [PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, August 29. A motion that the New Zealand tennis championships should be held within fixed dates every year, was defeated after a lengthy discussion, at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association tonight. It was decided to reinstate the intermediate championships at the national tourney. It was stated the New Zealand Plate event, which was held in its place, had not worked well. The intermediate event will be for players under 21. A report by tbe Management Committee on the Anthony Wilding Memorial Shield and Kathleen Nunneley Casket competitions was adopted. It expressed the opinion that the financial loss was too severe to be maintained under the present system of conducting these competitions. As, however, it was essential to ensure leading players’ attendance at the New Zealand championships, the report contained the following recommendations: —“That the old system of challenge and division of the proceeds be reverted to, except that the present grouping of associations be adhered to; that the New Zealand Association agree to pay one-half of the minimum first-class return travelling expenses, not including meals, sleeping or deck cabin accommodation of the first ten ranked players of each sex to the New Zealand championships each year.” The following officers were elected: Patron. Lord Bledisloe; President, Mr T. E. Hickson (Auckland); SecretaryTreasurer, Mr. H. N. Burns; Management Committee: Dr. A. E. Park, Messrs. C. G. White, A. G. Henderson, H. I. Graves, W. J. Melody, J. McGill, G. Gore; Auditor: Mr. P. O. Austin; representatives on the International Lawn Tennis Federation: Messrs R. De La Bere and G. Gotz; representative on the Lawn Tennis Association of England: Mr. R. De La Bere. The following honorary Vice-Presidents were elected: —Messrs. P. W. Routham, E. D. Andrews, J. Borotra, P. Peach, and Miss N. Lloyd.
