BOY AIR-PILOT’S DEATH

DUE TO BLEEDING NOSE? LONDON, August 14. At. the inquest at Sherburn last night on Gerald Henry Lawson Royle, the 16-year-old pilot, who was killed when his aeroplane crashed, his father, Mr. George Royle, of Crown-lane-gardens, Steathani Common, S.W., said a fortnight before his son went for a holiday to Scarborough, he suffered frequently from bleeding from the nose, sometimes very profusely. “His mother and I pointed out that there might be danger in flying if his nose bled,” said Mr. Royle, “but he pooh-poohed the idea, and said that) he could land and attend to the mat-| ter. He was seen by a doctor, who thought, little of it.” When his son was about 3, he ten from some steps, and had since suffered from bleeding from the nose. The blond might have been pushed

i up behind his goggles and blinded him as the aeroplane was diving at 120 miles an hour. The ground engineer at the aerodrome. said the boy apparently made no effort to regain control from the beginning of the dive to the crash. The jury returned a verdict of death from misadventure, through Royle losing control, probably consequent upon an attack of haemorrhage. Mr. Royle said he did not think the verdict was quite fair. After a second retirement the jury found that Royle met his death by the aircraft crashing, owing to loss of control, probably caused by some sudden disability.
