Mr. D. Coulter has returned from a holiday visit to Dunedin.

Mr. C. Stephenson arrived on Saturday, from Tim aru.

Mrs. D. Thomas will leave to-morrow on return to Wellington.

Mr. L. Warren arrived on Saturday from Christchurch, on a holiday visit.

Brigadier-General W. K. McNicoll, a member of the Federal House of Representatives, has been appointed as Administrator of New Guinea.

Mr H. Fletcher, who has been visiting England, returned to Greymouth on Saturday, after an absence of fifteen months.

The funeral of the late Janies Heslin took place on Saturday afternoon at Karoro Cemetery, Rev. H. R. Fell conducting the service.

Guests at Revingtou’s include: — Messrs A. J. Hyams, T. A. Jarvie (Wellington), D. V. White (Christchurch), W. Littlewood (Auckland).

Mr A. A. Adams entered Ngarana private hospital on Saturday, to undergo treatment for an old football injury.

The condition of Mr F. G. Davies, Inspector of Factories, who has been ill during the past few .weeks, was reported to-day, as being serious.

Mr P. Laffey, who has retired on superannuation after many years as Railway surfaceman at Te Kinga, left this morning, for the North Island, en route to Australia.

A London cablegram announced the death of Mr Hugh Mackie, aged 84, owner of the famous Gretna Green smithy. He left personal property worth £13,941.

The death occurred at Masterton yesterday morning, of Mr Humphrey O’Leary, in his 83rd year. He had been a resident of • Masterton for nearly fifty years. He was for 24 years a Borough Councillor. —Press Assn.

The engagement is announced of Mollie, only daughter of Mr and Mrs S. J. Irwin (Hokitika) to John William, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. A. Bruce, Southland. Mr Bruce, formerly on the Greymouth staff of the Bank of New Zealand, was recently transferred to Christchurch.

Cabled advice has been received from the London office Of Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, that Mr John McMillan, who is Managing Director of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company Limited, in London, has accepted a seat on the Board of Directors in place of the late Mr S. R. Livingstone-Learmonth.

The death occurred yesterday, at Wellington, of Mr William Henry Ballinger, aged 75. a former champion rifle shot. He won the New Zealand championship twice and represented New Zealand at Bisley in 1902. He was a foundation member of the Petone Rifle Club. He was keenly interested in racing and was a member of the Wellington Racing Club for over 30 years.—Press Assn.

The death occurred at New Ply-, mouth on Thursday, of Mrs Isabella Millar, a native of Aberdeen, Scotland, aged 87 years. Deceased had been in the Dominion 51 years, residing practically all that time at New Plymouth. Her husband predeceased her some 23 years ago. She leaves two sons, Messrs James Millar (New Plymouth) and Charles Millar (Cobden), and two daughters, Miss K. Millar and Mrs Nicoll (both of New Plymouth).

A Christchurch telegram announced the death, of George Mclntyre, 91, one of the oldest surveyors in New Zealand. He was a member of the first Hansard staff, later being a surveyor and draughtsman. He was appointed in 1869 Engineer-in-Chief on the Thames goldfields, then became Secretary and First Registrar General of Land, and had much to do with the present system of land transfer in the Dominion. He took up private practice in 1874 in Canterbury and Marlborough.

The wedding took place at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, on Saturday afternoon, of Myrtle, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs William Dowie, of Hukawai, to Joseph Baines, son of the late Mr Baines, and Mrs Ward, of Hastings. The Rev. H. R. Fell officiated. The bride was escorted by her father, and wore a frock of ivory satin and gold lace, with hat and shoes to tone. Miss V. Sefton, as bridesmaid, was attired in a frock of ivory satin, and gold lace. Mr James Douglas, of Waiuta, was best man. A reception was later held at Kells’ Hotel, Cobden.

The death occurred at the Greymouth Hospital, on Saturday afternoon, of David Ferns Dick, aged 53, and formerly a resident of Dobson. Deceased, who was a native of Blyth, England, had been in ill-health for a considerable time. He had been an employee in the engineering shop, at Dobson mine, for the past six years, prior to which he had been at Waiuta, arriving there with his wife and family. Tribute to the deceased was paid by Mr. W. Purdy, President of the Grey Valley Workers’ Union, last evening. The deceased leaves a widow, one son, Thomas, and one daughter, Mrs Willis, Waiuta. The funeral will leave the residence, Dobson, tomorrow afternoon, for the Karoro Cemetery.
