(Received July 16, Noon). SYDNEY, July 16
It is reported from Wan, New Guinea, that, a sensation has been caused by the discovery of an organised band of gold stealers on the Bulolo goldfields. It is believed that the gang was sending gold on a big scale to the receiving centre at Hongkong, depriving the Commonwealth Government of large amounts in royalties. A private detective, who was sent to the goldfields some time ago from Sydney, and who has since been working as a dredge hand, obtained ,evidence which led to the arrest of certain persons, regarded as important links in the scheme. Three men who were found in possession of gold specimens and also retorted gold suspected to have been stolen, have already been sentenced to imprisonment for varying terms.
