HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL [GT'E OWX CORBERPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, July 14. The ordinary meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council was held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Perry), Crs. T. W. Duff, E. Teichelman, Jas. King, A. C. Armstrong, J. Cuttance, A. J. Thompson. Apologies were received for the absence of Crs. Heinz, Stuart and Elcock, and the Mayor welcomed Cr. Cuttance to the Council table. Cr. D. P. Stuart wrote that he will be absent from Hokitika most of the time during the ensuing six months, and applying for leave of absence from meetings during that period.— | Granted.
The Manager, Westland Breweries Ltd., Hokitika, advised that the supply of water in insufficient, and asked for a one inch pipe from the main to the boundary of the brewery premises. —Approved.
Mrs. J. M. Whitford, wrote asking for motor entrance to section at the corner of Dalton and Hampden Streets. —Referred to P.W. Committee. The. Hokitika. Timber Co. wrote asking- for . domestic water supply to sawmill on Gibson’s Quay.—Granted. Messrs Stewart, Johnson, Hough and Campbell, Auckland, wrote that in regard to the bequest made by the late Mr. W. J. Butler, that the Council forward to the Trustees a report in January of each year, showing details of. expenditure under the bequest. N.Z. Refrigerating Co., advised that the following quantities of meat were delivered into Hokitika during the month of May, viz., 15 sheep. The State School Committee wrote asking the Council to forego usual percentage of gate takings at Cass Square for Saturday.-—Agreed. The Hokitika. Sawmill Company ' wrote requesting permission to dump 'sawdust on the sea beach.—Granted. To be dumped at low tide north of Tudor Street. The Treasurer reported receipts amounting to .£1073/19/7; payments £594/17/5. Dr., Balance £3lB/7/-. The Abattoirs Manager reported
stock, slaughtered during June: 30 cows, 24 heifers, 53 bullocks, 272 sheep, 37 lambs, 6 pigs, 11 calves. Condemned: 2 cows. Fees received — £66/17/-. For corresponding month last year £67/9/6. The tendei’ of C. Coyle for supply of beach gravel at 1/- per load was accepted.
