MISTAKE IN SUMMONS

HUSBAND EMBARRASSED

An unusual complaint was made by William Marshall Webster, a. London motor-lorry driver, at Denton Police Court recently. He was summoned for driving a “motor-cycle” without a rear light and with his number-plate not illuminated.

“Serving the summons at my house has made it awkward with my wife.” he said. She thinks I have been flying my kite round Denton on a motorcycle.”

Supt. Proffitt explained that there had been a, mistake in the summons. It should have read “motor-lorry” instead of “motor-cycle.”

The superintendent said if it would help matters he would write to defendant's wife and explain the error. Webster was fined 10s. on each summons.
