RAILWAYS AND SHIPPING. [FEB PBEBB ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, June 9. Replying to the statements of Mr. Mackley, General Manager of Railways, Mr. Ernest Davis, Chairman of Directors of the Northern Steamship Company, says it is true that, at a conference held between the Plarbours’ Association, the Shipowners’ Federation and the Railway Board, it was hgreed that the position was very difficult, and no solution was reached, for the simple reason that the Railway Board was not prepared Io alter its freight cutting policy as affecting shipping. The Board definitely laid it down that it would fix what freights it. thought fit without regard to injury to existing shipping services. It was nonsense to suggest that the conference recognised that the policy of the Railway Board, from a national point of view, could not be fairly criticised. The deputation had waited on the Board for that very purpose, and expressed their disappointment when receiving the Railway Board’s reply. GOODS SERVICE LICENSE, BLENHEIM, June 9. At a sitting, this morning, the Transport Co-ordination Board dismissed the appeal of A. J. Brown, carrier. of Havelock, against the decision of the No. 7 Transport Licensing Authority, in granting a goods service license to White’s Motors, of Havelock. The appeal revolved on the legal point of whether there was a right, of appeal against the granting of an automatic license. The Board decided that there was no appeal in such circumstances.
