BASKET-BALL
MATCHES AT WESTPORT The Technical Old Girls’ team from Greymouth journeyed to Westport yesterday and played two matches against local teams, Tech. School and Tech. Old Girls (says the Westport “News”). Owing to the atrocious weather conditions it was decided to play the matches in the Drill Hall, a large crowd attending for the big tussle, when the visitors played the West Coast champions. Tech. Old Giris. Although beaten on both occasions, the Grey girls were far from disgraced and they fully extended their opponents. Tech. School beat them by 7 to 3, and Old Girls by 17 to 9. The latter game was brimful of interest from start to finish, but the locals were the more finished combination, their goalies being well up to form and very seldom missed an opportunity. The visitors were not so good in this
department, but their half line and defence played well. Goals were scored for the winners by Misses E. Butterworth (10), J. Robertson (4), and E. Mitchell (3), while Misses C. Booth, M. Price and M. Tennant each scored three goals for the Grey team. The teams were: —
Westport Tech. Old Girls: Messrs M. Jenkin, J. Strachan, I). Burns, N. Greenwood, M. Rees, J. Robertson, E Mitchell and E. Butterworth.
Greymouth Tech. Old Girls: Misses A. Keddie, V. Peillon, P. Watson, B. Tennant, B. Greenhill, G. Chapman, M. Price, C. Booth, M. Tennant. 'the visitors played in attractive uniforms and neat shorts, which, besides adding to their appearance, would make playing more comfortable and free.
