The kidnappers were given by the State Prosecutor the option of pleading guilty or demanding a. jury trial, which might lead them to the electric chair. They chose the former and the Judge immediately imposed the sentence of life imprisonment.

FATAL STRIKE-RIOT VANCOUVER. May 15. A Los Angeles message states: The longshoremen’s strike assumed a serious aspect to-day. After an early morning clash, in which one striker was killed and scores were injured, the strikers attacked a building where several hundred strike breakers were concentrated. The police were compelled to fire many volleys into the ranks of the strikers.
