SMALL FARMS SCHEME
PURCHASES INQUIRY REFUSED. [I'KB PEERS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, May 16. The Prime Minister replied as follows to a complaint from the President of the New Zealand Small Farms League, that unsuitable land at excessive prices was being acquired for small farm applicants. “Regarding the suggestion that an impartial inquiry be made into the recent acquisition of land under the Small Farms Act, I have to say it is not proposed to set up a, special committee to inquire into the matter, as such a course is not. deemed necessary. I would point out, however, that, land for such purposes is acquired by the Government on the recommendation of the Small Farms Board, and the sub-committees set. up under the Act to advise the Board in such matters. Alter conferring with the Minister of Lands, who is administering the Act, I can see no grounds for the fears which you have expressed.”
