Every woman who has sat at her Whitehall desk for six years or more receives a. dowry. She is given a month’s pay for each year of service, with, a maximum of a year’s salary. A £2OO-a-year-woman with six years’ service would get £lOO to buy her trousseau. If she waited another six years she would received a full year’s salary.
