LIQUOR IN RESTAURANTS

In a reserved judgment, delivered by Mr. Page, S.M., to-day, it was held to be an offence to allow the drinking of liquor in restaurants at a time when licensed premises are required Io he closed. George Kathistideo and Peter Lambert, proprietors of the Blue Bird Cafe, and Giordano Zombon. an employee, were convicted and ordered Io pay costs, the police stating they would not press for a. heavy penally, but would lie satislied with a conviction being brought, under the notice of other restaurant, keepers and public. It was stated by the Magistrate that although the proprietors were not .present at. the time of the offence, this was a. case in law where the principal was liable tor the actions of his servant.
