ROTOMANU FARMERS' UNION The annual meeting of the Rotomanu branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Hall, with a good attendance of members. A motion of condolence was passed io the Larkin family. The Chairman (Mr. .1. Baird) in viewing the work for the past year said that by the efforts of the Farmers’ Union, not. only the West Coast but the whole of the South Island had benefited by at least Id par lb. for pork and bacon by the operation of the Pig Marketing Association. The chairman also mentioned that the N< w Zealand Farmers’ Union by approaching the Government to do something for the dairy farmers, whose position was becoming desperate, was the means of appointing the Dairy Commission now sitting and it remained yet to be seen if any good would come from same. It was regrettable that farmers were not sticking to the Union as they should, seeing Dial, lion-members were deriving the same benefit as members, The Chairman’s report was adopted.
The secretary (Mr. .1. Pitman), presented Hie balance sheet for the past yea) - , which showed a financial credit balance and was adopted. The election of oliicers for Hie coming year was as follows: —Chairman. Mr. ,1. Baird; Vice-Chairman, Mr. D. Larkin; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. Pitman; auditor, Mr. J. Ryan; delegate to Provincial Council, Mr. ,1. Ryan; committee, Messrs. V/. Cowan, A. Cowan, W. Larkin, A. Johnstone and 11. Hodgkinson. Mr. J. Baird was appointed to represent the Roto Maun branch at a representative meeting of farmers, to bo held in Greymouth. to discuss lite proposed scheme of taking the power house at Dobson as a bacon factory.
