TUESDAY NIGHT ONLY The return and final screening of “Tugboat Annie” will be given on Tuesday night. HOKITIKA—TO-NIGHT At the Princess Theatre, Hokitika, to-night, “Adorable” will be shown. SURF CLUB DANCE TO-NIGHT One of the most popular week night dance attractions is the Greymouth Surf Club’s old-time dance at the Blaketowri Hall this evening. An efficient M.C. will control the floor. Williams’ orchestra will supply the music. There will be numerous novelty dances.

MOTHERS’ DAY. The celebration of Mothers’ Day was held at the Town Hall, Greymouth, last night. The platform was decorated with flowers, and some were sent to the Hospital. A large crowd assembled, and the proceedings were broadcast by 3ZR. After playing a couple of selections in front of the hall, the Municipal Band took their places in front of the platform. The Band opened the proceedings with a sacred selection, and later played “Largo.” They also accompanied the hymn singing, and were much appreciated by the audience. Pastor Lowe, of the Church of Christ, read the Scriptures. The speaker, Mr Harry Dawson, illustrated his address with a large cross suspended above his head, upon which was painted the title of his address, “Mother’s Cross.” Mr Dawson said: “This is Mothers’ Day, and let us enthuse and thank our God for every remembrance of mother. It used to be said that the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world, but cradles have become unpopular; home life has lost much of its attraction, and the world is poorer and more miserable. I venture to say that before any permanent solution can be found for the present crisis, we will have to return to the standards of the old-fashioned Godly mother, we will have to return to our Mothers’ Cod. Mother not. only has a CroSs herself, but stands by other crosses. “There stood by the cross of Jesus His Mother.’ The greatest compliment I can pay to womanhood is to

tell you that in the hour of test; in the moment of the greatest crisis in the world’s history when Jesus Christ was being crucified; while those who were His followers, and His nearest and dearest friends deserted Hirn and fled.like so many cowards, there stood I faithfully by His side His beautiful j mother. So it has been in all the ages I since. Who do you fly to in grief? Who cares for the bereaved Son and His children? Who shadows the prison when all others have forsaken the sinning? Who, but Mother!” The speaker concluded his address by making acrostic of the word Cross, and by impressive stories of heroic

mothers which served to illustrate the Cross of Christ.
