CONVERSION ANNOYS CROWD. [BY CABLE —PBESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] (Recd. Mav 14. 1 p.m.) LONDON, May 13. The fact that, an ex-Labourite, John Beckett, who was once suspended by the Commons, for removing the Mace, has been converted to Fascism, led to lively scenes at a Black Shirts’ meeting at Newcastle- on Tyne. A crowd of several thousand greeted him with cries of “Traitor!” and soon there were free fights with sticks and stones. The police ordered that the meeting be terminated. Mounted' police had to stampede the crowd, from which Beckett was escorted to the Fascist headquarters, which were then besieged. until further charges dispersed the mob.
