LAST EVENING’S AWARDS. [OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA. May 11. The Hokitika Competitions op.'.nod at. All Sainis’ Hall last evening to a. moderate house. Mr H. M. Coulson IPresident >, rolorriug to them, re-i gretted the falling off in eniries, liar-i Licularly to the music and elocution | classes. This he attributed to the lack of interest, displayed by adults, which did not inspire the children. He welcomed the judges (Mr Vernon Griffiths (Music and Elocution), and Miss Edgar (dancing). Keddie b.L The judge said the work was pleasing throughout, and congratulated the ones who bad participated. lie also paid a. high compliment to Z. Austin, who dm' the difficult performance of playing her violin and singing at. the same time.
