[OUB OWN COBEESPONDENT.j HOKITIKA, May 9. A special meeting of the Hokitika Harbour Board was held to-day; present: Messrs E. W. Heenan (Chairman). D. P. Stuart, W. E. Richards, J. Cuttance and M. Houston. The meeting was called to consider an application by the Public Works Department, who asked the Board to grant the Department the right to use and develop the area of land between high and low-water iparks adjacent to the aerodrome at South Hokitika, and permission to divert Fisherman’s Creek.
The Board decided that it had no objection to the creek and area between low and high-water marks as shown on the plan submitted, beingdeveloped and used as proposed for the purpose of an aerodrome, subject to the approval of the landowners concerned.
A successful meeting of basket-ball players and others interested in the game was held in the Town Hall last evening, with the object of forming an association, to be affiliated with the New Zealand Basket Ball Association. Mr Hayhurst, from South Canterbury addressed the meeting and explained the advantages of affiliating with the New Zealand Association, also the method of procedure. On his suggestion a Sub-Association was formed, to be called the Hokitika Basket Ball Sub-Association. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs A. Stevenson; vice-presidents: Misses E. Dale, K. Duncan, D. Learmont, Mrs J. Masfarlane and Messrs Menzies and Turner; secretary and treasurer, Miss E. Redder. A Saturday competition is to be played, commencing after the usual competition on June 4. The annual meeting of parishioners of All Saints Church, was held this evening, the Vicai’ (Rev. H. J. W. Knights, M.A.) presiding over a fair attendance. The annual report, showed that the parish had “held its own” during the year, and had not to make any “cuts” as has been the case in many parishes. The Vicar reported on the work of the parish and extended thanks to the many workers. Mr. J. B. Ward was re-appointed Vicar’s Warden and Mr. W. E. Richards was re-elected People’s Warden. The following were elected a, vestry: Messrs R. Wild. Clark, Campbell, F. Chesterman, W. Rowe, and D. Thomas, together with the churchwardens and the people’s wardens of Koiterangi, Kokatahi, Kanieri and Rimu. The following were elected All Saints’ Church Committee: Messrs R. Wild, D. Thomas. F. Chesterman, R. W. Palmer, A. King, L. S. Ross, J. Cooper, J. Richards, H. W. R. Sweney, together with the wardens and secretary. Mr. AV. A. Rowe was elected secretary, Mr. T. R. Say well not wishing again to take office. Mr. L. Michel was reelected auditor. For the first time the question of ladies on the committee was discussed but the ladies themselves did not desire to act. The question of repairs to the organ was discussed. and it is proposed to get the report of an organ-builder.
