REEFTON NOTES
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, April 19. A general meeting of members of the Reefton Rugby League Club was held in the band room last evening, Mr. C. Chandler presiding over a good attendance. It was decided to ask the secretary to communicate with the Warataths re the forming of a junior team as the Reefton Club has a surplus of players. A vote of thanks was passed to the delegates who attended the centre meeting. The secretary advised the meeting in regard to the transport arrangements for the coming season. The following social committee was elected to act in conjunction with the management committee, Messers A. and M. Turner. W. Barrow, A. Parrish, J. Downey, J. Howard and K. McMahon. A meeting of the Reefton Domain Board was held in the Council Chambers yesterday, there being present: Messrs I. Patterson (chair), J. B. Discacaiti and W. J. Duff (secretary). Bourkc’s* Colliery Company wrote asking for a concession in rent. —It was resolved that a letter be sent to the Company informing them that if the company is prepared to pay all rent in arrear to March 31, 1934, the Board will apply to the Minister of Lands asking him to approve of a rebate of 20 per cent, being allowed thereon in respect of all rent due since April 1, 1932, but if the Cdmpany is not prepared to pay such arrears, then the payment of the whole amount will be required without any deduction, the Company to be notified that the Board has no power to gfant ally reduction without the consent of the Minister of Lands. The Chairman reported that he had interviewed the Under-Secretary of
the Lands and Survey Department in regard to extending the Strand Domain from the bridge to the typhon, ’ and that the matter was being duly considered. The Chairman’s action was 1 endorsed by the Board. I It was resolved that arrangements . be made with Mr. G. Dick to run sheep [ on the Strand Reserve, without re- , sponsibility to the Board, and subject r to Mr. Dick liming the land with at . least one ton of burnt Ross lime, the j sheep to be run at intervals during the „ winter. The Under-Secretary of Lands wrote i regarding the annual report and bal--3 ance sheet of the Board, and the - Chairman and Secretary were in--3 structed to prepare same and submit r to the annual meeting of the Board B to be held in May. It was resolved to write to the j Minister of Internal Affairs, requestr ing the allocation of £5OO from the
Art Union funds, for the purpose of carrying out improvements to Strand Domain. Erecting sanitary conveniences, providing hot and cold water, laying out the paths and flowei’ beds and providing slides, swings etc., for , a children’s playground. It was re- ( solved to engage labour for weed and . dock cutting in the Strand Reserve. ; and also for repair of fencing. ; It was carried that a request be j made to the Inangahua County Coun- > cil to have plans and specifications prepared for the proposed sanitary conveniences on Strand Reserve by 5 the County Engineer, and to ask the Council’s assistance and co-operation 3 in carrying out the project. , —.......=s
