A London cablegram announced the death of Andrew Kirkaldy, the golf professional.

Constable Clements arrived yesterday, from Christchurch, and, to-day proceeded to Millerton to replace Constable R. Miller, transferred to Oamaru.

A cablegram from Colombo stated that Colonel Menoti Garibaldi, Italian Consul at Colombo, and grandson of Giuseppe Garibaldi, died from heart failure.

Mrs L. Stutridge, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs J. M. Carruthers, Buccleugh Street, returned 'to Christchurch by to-day’s express. She was accompanied by Mrs Carruthers.

Mr. Arthur Shannon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Shannon, of Rimu, and brother to Mr. Shannon, Chief Clerk Public Works Department, Greymouth, has, in London, secured his certificate as chief marine engineer. Mr. Shannon is attached to the Blue Star line.

The wedding took place at Huka-' rere, yesterday, of Miss Daphne Gardiner, youngest daughter of Mr and Mr H. Gardiner, of Blackwater, to Eric Bradley, second son of Mr and Mrs A". Bradley, of Hukarere. Rev. Rattray performed the ceremony.

Mr. L. Francis, of Westport, who was recently appointed conductor to the Greymouth Municipal Band, has been advised of his appointment to the teaching staff of the Greymouth Technical School. Mr. Francis will take up his new positions early next month.

A cablegram from London stated: The “Star” says that Court circles expect the King shortly to create Prince George a Duke, in recognition of his great success in South Africa, where he cemented the loyalty to Throne of all classes, as no diplomat could have done.

A Press Association message from Wanganui stated that the funeral of the Rev. Father Celestine Le Croix was the largest seen in Wanganui for many years. It was attended by Archbishop O’Shea, and priests from many parishes throughout the North Island.

The death has occurred at, the Westland Hospital, of Mr Severino Piezzi, after an illness of three weeks’ duration. Deceased, who followed gold mining, was born in Goldsborough, 60 years ago. He is survived by two sisters, Mesdames Perry and O’Brien (Wellington), who arrived in Kumara on Monday.

A cablegram from New York stated that Mr Archdale Parkhill, Commonwealth Postmaster-General, has arrived there from an official visit to London. He spends a few days in New York, and thence proceeds to Washington, and will probably confer unofficially with Post Office officials there. From Washington he will go to Ottawa,- and then to Vancouver, sailing for Australia on April 25.

The funeral of the late Clive Sherman Beale took place at Karon? cemetery this afternoon, and there was a large attendance. A guard of honour was formed by his schoolmates on leaving the residence. Rev. W. A. Beaumont conducted the service at the residence and at the graveside.
