To-day’s Racing News

Galloping

MEETINGS TO COME.

April 19, 21. —Whangarei. April 21. —Marton. April 21.—South Canterbury April 21, 23.—Nelson.

Tax on GJ.C. Meeting: The Government taxation on the Greymouth Jockey Club’s Autumn meeting amounted to £914/1/8, made up as follows: —Totalisator £423 3/2; dividend £411; stakes £59/10/-; amusement £2O/8/6.

Juniper for West Coast. Juniper, who came to the Wesi Coast for the Autumn Meetings, did not return to Riccarton, being sold dur ing the trip.

Lack in Form: Now that Lack has returned to form he should go on with it. especially as he is down in the weights, and is partial to soft tracks. Recovered:

Silver Streak has made a quick recovery from the injury he received at Oamaru, and he has been nominated for the South Canterbury meeting, to be held on Saturday week.

Over Big Fences: Hastings reports indicate that Manuiri will be tried as a steeplechaser during the coming jumping season. Cricket Bat:

Has experienced a fairly long spell of racing, and is to be treated to a spell at Stonyhurst.

Golden Hair:

Has finished racing for the season, and she will be spelled until the spring, when it is possible she may make another trip to Australia. Golden Hair has raced 24 times for 11 firsts, three seconds, and five thirds, and she has earned £3645 in stakes.

Another Croupier—ln Name: A two-year-old named Croupier was racing at Randwick last week. He is a chestnut gelding by Legionaire from Spurnaus, by Chrysolaus, and has run five times without success.

New to Turf:

Multi-Ace, a new name among the maiden horses at Marton, is a three-year-old black gelding by The Ace from a Multifid mare bred in the Opotiki district, and he is now owned by Messrs. G. A. Vincent and W. D. Moroney, the partnership that races Vertigern.

King’s Lancer: Another unknown quantity among the Marton novices is King’s Lancer, who is a three-year-old bay gelding by Greyspear from the Martian —Lady Kinloch mare Royal Star. He was bred and is owned by Mr. W. H. Gaisford.

At Chokebore Lodge: Sir Charles Clifford has purchased a yearling filly from the late Mr. H. M. Reeves’s Horoata Stud, and she has arrived at the Chokebore Lodge stables, where H. and A. Cutts will break her in, in preparation for racing next season. The filly is by Tea. Tray from Scrip, a Paper Money mare who was a smart galloper.

Golden Wings: Presumably Golden Wings concluded his autumn campaign in Australia when he ran third last Saturday in. the C. W. Cropper Plate, <a six-furlong weight-for-age event at Randwick. It turned out an unlucky trip, as he lost the big Doncaster prize at Randwick by only the narrowest of margins and success in that would have recouped all his expenses and left; a fair profit as well.

.Currajong: Among the Marton entries is Currajong, Currajong was purchased last winter by Mr. K. McK. Duncan and put to hurdling, but he did not prove a great success, and so far his main recommendation is his full relationship to the Grand National winner Carinthia. However, he is only a seven-year-old, and the experience he gained last year may .see him do better this winter.

Quite Far Enough: Scoring.her first success since being purchased by the English sportsman, Major Peter Kerr-Smiley, Expectancy paid a solid double-figure price in winning the Chevalier Handicap at Avondale last Saturday. Once again the vigour with which H. Wiggins rides his finishes proved the turning point, for Expectancy, who does not stick too well, only just hurts on to beat Cdronis by a head. “It was quite far enough,” commented her rider after the race.

Handles Any Going: Puss Moth who won a double at Avondale, can handle any going, and he should be a good prospect from now on, for he can muster up a great turn of speed when at his best. In Regular Work:

The hurdler, Paddon, is in regular work again at Avondale. As he is in his eleventh year, it is doubtful if he will be capable of reproducing the form he displayed a few seasons ago.

Speedy Filly: Coronilla has plenty of speed, but does not stay on too well. She may go further with age, but the progeny of D’Oro have been better sprinters, than stayers. .On the Beach:

Cottesmore and the two-year-old Ay resleigh are continuing to be trained on the beach at Porirua, where J. T. Young is temporarily resident. Linoleum is another member of the team.

OWNER AND A.J.C,

SYDNEY, April 12. Arugment began. to-day on Mr. Rufus Naylor’s application for a. continuation of an injunction as against the Australian Jockey Club, as was cabled on March 31. An affidavit, prepared by Mr. Rowe, secretary of the A.J.C., was read. It disclosed that Naylor was disqualified on the ground that he gave false or misleading evidence in connection with the ownership of a horse named Movado, which, allegedly, was not allowed to do its best at the Gosford country meeting in February, 1933. Consequently, he was disqualified. During a subsequent inquiry, Naylor was informed that the Stewards were of the opinion that a man named F. Punch, the owner of Gesto, was also “dummying” for Naylor.

Counsel for Naylor argued that the Chib by-law under which Naylor was disqualified was invalid, and that the A.J.C. acted without legal authority. The case was adjourned.

Trotting MEETINGS TO COME. April 14.—Thames. April 14. —Ashburton. April 21. —Te Aroha. Blue Mountain: Blue Mountain has been doing well since joining J. S. Shaw’s stable. Paul Drusus: The Drusus gelding Paul Drusus has joined J. Bryce’s stable. Kilbirnie Dan: The Nelson Bingen gelding Kilbirnie Dan is the latest Addington horse to join B. Jarden’s stable at. Forbury Park. Morello: The Rey de Oro colt Morello is amongst, those working well at Addington, and may shape creditably if produced at Ashburton. Two-Minute Pacers: Given favourable track and atmospheric conditions and a close-hitched sulky, Harold Logan and Walla Walla would crack a two-minute gait from a flying start on a mile circuit. War Betty; The successful reinsman, A. Hendriksen, will probably hold the lines over War Betty at the Ashburton meeting on Saturday. Olive Nelson: One of the great blots in the lightharness game consists in the fact that the crack trotter Olive Nelson, although still fit and full of racing powers is not worth owning as a racing proposition. ADDINGTON TRACK WORK. Walla Walla was the star attraction it Addington yesterday morning, when there was a. fair attendance of

trackwatchers and conditions were good. With W. J. Tomkinson behind him, Walla Walla went away from the mile post a second in advance of Auburn Lad. He ran his first quarter in 0.32, the first half in 1.5 1-5, six furlongs in 1.38 1-5, and the full journey in 2.8 2-5. The speed was on only over the last two furlongs, which he ran in 0.30 1-5, and did it very easily. Walla Walla has settled down more in his work, and looks an improved horse. Auburn Lad never made any impression on his companion, and had j to be kept up to his work to stay handy over the final pace, but he did his work well.

Young Travis worked alone over a mile and a-quarter. He went his first mile at an even gait, registering 2.12 and sprinted home in 2.44 for the full journey. Social Pest led Young Frank and Worthy Queen away from the mile and a-half posts in that order. The first half was run in 1.11, the mile in 2.18 2-5, and the mile and a-half in 3.23 4-5. The order in the running did not change until the run home, when Worthy Queen moved up to finish in line with Social Pest and slightly ahead of Young Frank. Worthy Queen’s time w-as 3.21 4-5. Margaret Chenault and Impromptu were worked the wrong way round, but Impromptu was not pacing well, and they were pulled up after covering half a mile in 1.9. With a. galloping pacemaker, Carnera ran a. mile and a-quarter in 2.51, the last mile in 2.17.

In the middle of the track, Black Jester followed Ruth Logan over a mile and a-half, and failed to catch her in the final quarter. Black Jester ran his last half-mile in 1.5 4-5, and the full distance in 3.28.

Mountain Dell was always going easily in her work, and ran one mile in 2.20 4-5.

Biddy Parrish and Royal Again worked a mile in 2.15, the last half of which took 1.6 and finished on terms.

Garner showed good speed in her work, and ran a. mile and a-quarter in 2.47 1-5. She looks an improved mare for her Easter racing, where she showed her old form.

Agile was trailed over a mile and a-quarter by Full Hand, but the latter could not get near him, finishing well back. Agile went 2.45 for the 10 furlongs, 1.5 for his last half-mile. He is in good order. Silver de Oro moved in her usual free style over a mile and a-half. Her sectional times were 1.11, 2.19 3-5, and 3.27 1-5, which she did without any apparent effort.

WANTED—2-MINUTE PACER

CHRISTCHURCH, April 12. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club has offered a purse of £250 to the owner of the first horse registering two minutes for one mile, and this record is likely to be attacked •In a special trial at Addington on Tuesday, by Walla Walla. LARGE FIELDS AT ASHBURTON.
