INJURED BY CAR
POLICE DESCRIBE CHASE. [PER press association.] • AUCKLAND, March 17. At the Police Court this morning, John Spencer, 37, insurance agent, was. charged with intoxication when in charge of a car. The police said that at 5.40 last evening, he drove across an intersection in Karangahape Road at a. speed estimated between 40 and 45 miles an hour. He knocked down Miss Isobel Jack, 21, and speeded away, but was followed by two motor cyclists, and stopped, but again speeded up. and doubled back. Later, lie was arrested on the Great North Road, and was found to be intoxicated. The young woman had serious head injuries, and was operated on this morning. Accused was remanded for a week.
