RACEHORSE INJURED
FOR SALE IN COURT. LONDON January 26. Sir Alfred Butt, the theatrical producer and racehorse owner, was awarded £1,155 damages and costs by Mr Justice Macnaghten in the King’s Bench Division yesterday against Mr C. Easterbee, a trainer, of Stockbridge. Sir Alfred claimed for injuries to his race-horse. Largition after it had run at Goodwood last July. On July 25 Largition was fourth in the Stewards’ Cup, and was being led back to the stables when, it was alleged a motor-horse box belonging to Mr Easterbee struck the horse, injuring his off hind foot. Mr Fox Andrews, for Sir Alfred, said his client had authorised him to say “here and now” that he (Sir Alfred) would sell Largition for £lOO to anybody. (It had been stated that his value was £3.000 before the accident.) Mr Justice Macnaghten: This is not Tattersalls,’ you know. (Laughter). Mr Fox Andrews: No, but I make the offer. This is the only occasion on which I may have the opportunity of offering a racehorse for sale.
Mr Justice Macnaghten, giving judgment, said he accepted the evidence of the stable lad that he gave the motor driver the signal to stop, and judgment would be for Sir Alfred Bntt for £1,155, with costs.
