Mr. J. Morris, and his sister, Mrs. A. Gordon, who have been visiting relations at Kanieri, left this morning, on return to Te Puke. They were accompanied by Miss A. Thomas. >
General Sir Percy Radcliffe, General Officer Qommanding-in-Chief the Southern Command since January 1933, who collapsed and fell from a horse, while hunting near Salisbury, died almost immediately. He was aged sixty, yesterday. —Official Wireless.
After practically half a century m the service of the company, and 63 years in -the profession of engineering, Mr James Smith, superintending engineer of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand Ltd., will retire from that position on March 31. Mr Smith will be succeeded by Mr R. L. Gillies, assistant superintending engineer, who in turn will be succeeded by Mr. A. L. Gatland, Chief Engineer of the Rangatira. Although ' vacating the position of superintending engineer, Mr Smith will continue in the service of the Company, in an advisory capacity until the end of the present year.—'Press Assn.
