FORESTERS’ FRIENDLY SOCIETY. The annual meeting of the members of the Nelson District of the Foresters’ Society took place on Thursday, at the Foresters’ Hall, Collingwood Street, Nelson. The District Chief Ranger, Brother A. Scrimgoeur, of Court Aorere presided. All Courts throughout the district were represented by delegates from their respective Courts. Bros. Hunter, District Secretary, and Bethwaite, District Treasurer, were also present. Leave of absence was granted to Bro. W. H. Ching, District Sub Chief Ranger, owing to illness. A resolution of sympathy for his speedy recovery- was passed. After the District Court was opened, (he D.C.R. read the Roll of Honour containing the names of those brethreh who had lost their lives in the Great War, the brethren standing. The D.C.RF., in presenting his annual report, expressed his pleasure at meeting and welcoming the delegates assembled. He stated that the business of the District had gone on smoothly during the year, no great questions or matters of importance have been referred to the District for settlement. He regretted that the district had had a bad financial year, the death claims being exceptionally heavy, amounting to £630, were paid on account of the deaths of 18 members and three members’ wives. The Funeral Fund shows a decrease of £193/13/3 for the year. The total worth of the District and Court funds now amount to £48,990 19/-, an average of £72/19/6 per member. The number of financial members is 672, a decrease of ten for the year, the sick pay £1662/6/6 paid is slightly lower than last year, average per member, £2/4/8. The amount
paid for medical attendance for the year was £lO4l/18/8. Maternity bonuses amounting to £l7O were paid during the year, the number being 29. It was decided to forward on to the Registrar for acceptance partial amendment of the by-laws, and also additional ones of Court Inangahua. An application from Court Perseverance to transfer the management of the court to the district, was received. The District Secretary stated there was no law whereby this could be done. A resolution was carried' that the court be requested to carry on and endeavour to make new members. Jt was decided to leave the amount of the levies in the hands of the district officers with power to make them on a graduated scale. Bros. W. C. Ancell and N. Kerr were appointed trustees in place of Bros. W. T. Bond and E. Fleming, deceased. Bro. Crispin referred to the death of the late Bro. Bond, and moved that this meeting record the fullest appreciation of the services rendered ,10 the Order by the late brother, that an enlarged photograph of the brother be obtained and hung in the Court room, also that a copy of the resolution be conveyed to his family. A resolution of condolence was ordered to be sent to the family of the late Bio. E. B. Fleming. Bro. W. H. Ching, of Court. Sher Wood Forest was elected D.C.R., and Bro. A. Duncan, of Court Royal Oak as D.S.C.R.
