INVERCARGILL WOOL SALE
RANGE OF PRICES. [PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] INVERCARGILL, January 31. The first wool sale of the Invercargill series was held to-day, a catalogue of over 30,000 bales being offered to a full and representative bench of buyers, including Bradford, Continental and Japanese. In all. the halfbreds and fine crossbreds values obtained at the recent Christchurch sale were fully maintained. The medium crossbreds in the opening catalogue showed a slight easing of from par to Id per lb., while the very coarse grades of crossbred ewe were easier in some, cases to the extent of id per lb. As the sale advanced, however, the lower grades of crossbred wool, particularly, appeared to improve in value. Pieces, bellies and locks met with exceptional competition, and values were quite up to Christchurch parity, while crutchings exceeded, if anything, the values ruling there. Fully 95 per cent, of the first catalogue offered was sold by auction, and in most cases the vendors realised a 100 per cent, rise, and in some cases a 200 per cent, increase upon the prices they obtained for the same clips at the first- sale last year. An outstanding feature of the sale was the high values ruling for finer grades of pieces. Some ranged up to 17id, which, in a good many cases, exceeded the values obtaining for the fleece portions of the clip. The buyers’ views of the Southland clip have been most favourable.
