The shipping industry has begun the task of supplying Mr. Runciman (President of the Board of Trade) with information on which to decide the question of subsidies. Sir Alexander Shaw, Chairman of the P. and 0. Company, speaking at a dinner in honour of Lord Brabourne, the new Governor of Bombay, said his company were laying down a large vessel with a speed greater than the Viceroy of India, which would be employed on an express service between Bombay, Marseilles and London. Probably it would be named the Strathmore, and be ready for service in the autumn or 1935. SUfifZ CANAL MISHAP LONDON, January 5. A Port Said Message stated that the Esperance Bay is aground in the Bitter Lakes section of the Suez Canal. Traffic is unobstructed but the vessel may have to discharge cargo before its release.
