The return of business transacted in the Greymouth Warden’s Court during the quarter ended December 31, 19333, with comparisons with the corresponding quarter of 1932. in parenthese. is as follows: —Greymouth dis-trict-miners’ rights issued 189 (161); applications received 91 (70) ; registrations 74 (58); searches 9 (4) ; mining licenses granted 60 (44); number of plaints entered 7 (5); number of rent receipts issued 24 (31); amount of rent collected £214/2/11 (£154 3/-); number of court days 9 (7); defended cases heard nil (3); undefended cases heard 2 (nil); disputed applications heard 4 (2).
Ahaura district: —Applications received 50 (22); registrations 41 (31); searches 4 (1); mining licenses granted 28 (23); number of plaints entered 1 (nil); number of rent receipts issued 27 (33); amount of revenue collected £137/17/- (£93/10/8); number of court days 7 (6); defended cases heard, nil (nil); undefended cases heard 1 (nil); disputed applications heard' nil (1). The combined return for the Greymouth and Ahaura Registries for the year ended December 31, 1933, as compared with the return for the year 1932, was as follows: —Miners’ rights granted 861 (647); applications received 604 (431); registrations 476 (34); mining licenses granted 406 (258); amount of rent collected £1,361/10/1 (£834/IG/4). The above figures show that mining activity has again increased considerably, as compared with the previous twelve months when there was a big revival.
