The honking horns of cars conveying “petting parties” near the house, ot Carl Metling, a wealthy retired farmer ot' Cleveland, Ohio, was the initial cause of his being; slain last night. Britton Young, a University .student, of Cleveland, was “spooning” with his girl friend in her car last night, with the lights extinguished. An intruder arrived, pulled open the door, dragged the girl roughly from the seat, and' proceeded to beat her. Young fought off his assailant (Metling). who, however, was too strong. Young then drew his revolver. In further fighting, Yeung shot and killed Metling.

Metling had attended a Bible class early in the evening and told his friends that, ho intended tn try to break v.p the “petting parties” in motor cars.
