ALPINE VILLAGE
HOLIDAY-MAKERS ISOLATED [BY CABLE —PBESB ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] (Recd. Jan. 5. 11.30 a.m.). NICE. January 4. Three hundred, including British and Americans, and thirty children, are isolated in the village of Beml, at an altitude of 4770 feet, where they went ski-ing on Sunday. All the approaches are blocked with ice and snow. The food is exhausted. Manv are sleeping in cow sheds. There are no medical supplies. The isolated people are suffering intensely. An attempt to succour them will be made with an aeroplane, fitted with runners, and carrying a doctor and food. SOME RESCUES MADE. (Recd. January 5,2 p.m.) NICE, January 4. A number of the three hundred skiers were rescued by army tractors, called in to release motor cars on the frozen road. The rest, of the marooned are awaiting the French alpine .soldiery who are making a way to Beuil on skis.
