£1,000 BROOCH RECOVERED
A MYSTERY LETTER. LONDON, November 22. The heirloom emerald and diamond brooch, valued at £l,lOO, lost by Mrs. Gerald Guniness, of Lower Belgravestreet, S.W., was returned to her yesterday in an old scent box. Mrs. Guinness missed the brooch at the wedding - of Mr. Arthur Rawlins and Miss Georgina Guinness at Great Oakley, Kettering, last Thursday. Al reward of £lOO was offered for its recovery.
Under the postmark “Chelsea,” the brooch was returned unregistered, and’ was wrapped in cottonwood. It was certified to be undamaged. Mrs. Guinness on Wednesday night received the following letter: — “With reference to the. reward for your brooch, it is in safe hands. If the value is as advertised, a reward of £lOO means nothing to me. “If a more substantial reward is offered it will be returned to you. If not, its value will do me nicely by keeping it.”
The letter, signed '‘A Lucky Find,” was -written on cheap paper, and the postmark was ‘‘London, W.1.”
