ADDINGTON MARKET, SHEEP IN DEMAND. [PEE PEESB ASSOCIATION.] ° CHRISTCHURCH, Jahriary 3. At the Addington market, to-day, the demand for store sheep was very keen, and fat sheep were in short supply. Store Sheep: A moderate entry and keen sale, particularly for young ewes. Values were firm, and in some cases showed an increase. Good two-tooth Romney ewes 22/3 to 24/-, medium two-tooth three-quarter-bred 19/10 to 21/3, medium two-tooth halfbred 21/to 22/6, good four-tooth halfbred to 24/-, s. and f.m. 11/3 to 14/4, forward m.s. lambs 15/6 to 16/9, others 14/- to 15/2, -forward three-quarter-bred wethers to 15/9, ordinary half-bred 10/- to 12/3. Fat Lambs: Values erratic, and the buying power declined in the latter stages. The market opened at up to 7Jd per lb, but weakened to 7d. Inferior ranged down to 6Jd. Values were:—Extra prime to 24/7, prime, heavy 19/6 to 22/-, medium 16/6 to 19/-, light 14/6 to 16/-. Fat Cattle: An entry of 490 head, more than required- Values were slightly lower. Best beef made 20/to 23/- per 1001b,' good 1 16/- to 18/6, heavyweight 15/- to 18/-, medium quality 14/- to 16/-, rough and ordinary 9/- to 13/-. Values were:—Extra prime heavy steers to £ll/2/6, prime heavy £7/10/- to £B/15/-, prime mediumweight £7 to £B/5/-., ordinary quality £4/5/- to £6/10/-, light to £4, extra prime heifers £B/2/6, prime £4 to £6, medium £2/10/- to £3 15/-, light to £2/5/-, extra prime cows to £7/2/6, prime £3/10/- to £5/5/-, medium £2 to £3, light £l/5/- to £2.
Fat Sheep: The entry of' 300 head was small, and quality was generally lacking. Demand was steady at the opening and became very keen later. In the concluding stages, ewe values advanced by 1/6 to 2/- per head. Extra prime heavy wethers to 28/4, prime heavy 23/- to 26/-, prime mediumweight 21/- to 22/9, ordinary 18/- to 20/-, light 15/- to 17/6, extra prime heavy ewes to 26/10, prime heavy 20/6 to 22/6, prime medium-weight 16/6 to 19/6, ordinary quality 13/- to 16/-, light 10/- to 12/6. Fat Pigs: The market was not large and the result was a keen sale. A few were bought for export. Values were: Porkers 28/6 to 34/6, heavy 37/6 to 41/6, average price per lb 5Jd to 6d; baconers 45/6 to 52/6, heavy 56/6 to £3/3/6, average price per lb 4d to 41d, choppers 30/- to £3/18/6. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, January 3. At to-day’s wool sales 11,773 bales were offered, and 11,589 were sold, in addition to 1415 sold privately. There was keen and general competition. The market showed a distinct upward tendency for all descriptions, and especially for the better classes of skirtings. . Excellent clearances were effected. Greasy merino made 291 d for seven bales from the New England district.
