A Kabul newspaper “Isbah,” contains a photograph of a remarkable confession alleged to have been made by Abdul Khaliq, who murdered the Afghan King, resulting in sixteen executions. Khaliq, a twenty r three years old studqnt, says that he was instigated to commit the murder by the wife of Ghulam Siddiq, formerly Foi-eign Minister in ex-King Amanullah’s Government, and now: in exile in Berlin. Khaliq declared that he had a devilish passion for the woman who provided him with money to assassipate Nadir Shah, expecting it to be followed by a rising throughout the countw, the re-enthronement of Ajnanuliah, and with personal honours for himself. Khaliq. at first, hesitated, but the woman, and also the wives of the executed - men, taunted him with being a coward. The woman refused to love him unless he killed Nadir Shah. The confession adds: This is the secret of the great national calamity, which I must reveal, as the identity of the woman who was the root of all the mischief must not remain undisclosed.
