ENGLAND WINS TEST
WEALTH FOR CENTURY-MAKER INDIAN WOMEN’S ENTHUSIASM [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Received December 19, 10 a.m.) CALCUTTA, December 18. England won the first Test match by nine wickets. In India’s second innings, Amarnath and Nayudu, in the third wicket partnership, added 186. At one stage India was 2 for 207, but then came a complete collapse. Amarnath, the Lahore century-mak-er, continues the hero of the hour. It is reliably vouched that he has already been offered an aggregate sum of £1540 by wealthy admirers. Hysterical women also divested themselves of costly jewels and bangles, and flung them to the young cricketer. The scores were: — INDIA, Ist Innings, 219. ENGLAND, Ist Innings, 438.
