OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. “Evenings For Sale” to be screened to-night • and Tuesday, is a romantic comedy of post-war Vienna, with Herbert Marshall in the role of an impoverished nobleman, and Sari Maritza. as the charming daughter of a bourgeois merchant. Marshall and Maritza meet at a masked ball, and Franz, who had looked forward to suicide the preceding morning, finds he wants to live and to accept work as entertainer in a cafe run by his former butler. Here he meets Jenny Kent, an American widow in Vienna for a vacation, and the simple-hearted Jenny becomes the third in a strange triangle. RUNANGA. “The Maid of the Mountain” will be screened to-night. ST. JOHN’S CHURCH. The Christmas concert was held last x evening at the Presbyterian Church, ' by the Choir, conducted by Mr A. McMaster, with Mr R. B. Tennent (organist). The following programme was rendered:— Organ: “Celtic Pastorale” Lindsay; “Grand Choeur” Spence. Solo: “He Shall Feed His Flock (Handel’s “Messiah”), Miss N. Tennent. Organ Solo: Miss M. Coburn. Duet: “Love Divine.” (Daughter of Jairus; Stainer), Mrs F. J.

Tempero and Mr. H. E. Anderson. Anthem: “0 Come All Ye Faithful” (Reading). Solo: “Nazareth” (Gounod), Mr E. McQueen. Anthem: “The Heavens are Telling” (Simper). Rev. H. R. Fell thanked the Choir, conductor and organist, and soloists. In the programme they had presented, he said, they had done their best and their efforts were much appreciated. CHRISTMAS BAZZAR. On Saturday last the parishioners of the Church of the Resurrection, Cobden, conducted a bazaar, in McKane’s Hall, in aid of the church funds. The inclement weather was against a large attendance, but good business was done. A special feature was a large Christmas Tree. The details of the effort were in the hands of Mr J. Scorgie, while the following had charge of the various stalls: — Sewing! Mesdames J. Scorgie and T. Hornsby; cooking: Mesdames Fredericks and Ellis; sweets: Mesdames Excell, Calder and'Lindbom ; toys: Messrs Yates and Teasdale; Christmas Tree: Mr and Mrs Pentecost and family. KUMARA CONCERT. The annual concert, in aid of the funds of St. Patrick’s School, took place at the Memorial Hall on Friday .evening. The items, which were many and varied', were received with applause.
