HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES

EDUCATION BOARDS MUST PAY. [FEB PBKSB ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, December 8. When the Christchurch City Council sought to collect heavy traffic fees on certain vehicles operated by the Canterbury Education Board, the Board refused to pay and the Council took action in the Supreme Court. The Board’s defence to the action was to plead prerogative of the Crown. Mr Justice Ostler, giving judgment to-day, held that Education Boards were not servants or agents of the the Crown. He held, therefore, that the Board was liable for heavy traffic fees, and ordered the Board to pay, the costs of the case, seven guineas, and disbursements.
