Mr J. M. Carruthers was discharged from the Grey River Hospital, to-day. Mr and Mrs A. S. Fong will return to-morrow, from Wellington. Mr G. Murtha, accompanied by his ‘ mother, will return to Greymputh, tomorrow, from Christchurch. Mr W. McKechnie arrived yesterday from Dunedin, on a visit to his parents, Mr and Mrs C. McKechn e. Sir Arthur Dudley Dobson, who has been confined to his bed for the last two or three days, because ot heart attack, was reported yesterday, to be much better. The funeral of the late Mrs Jane Storie took place this afternoon, at Karoro Cemetery. The services at deceased’s late residence, Runanga, and at the graveside, were conducted by Rev. A. 0. Harris. \ The death of Mr J. D. Lynch, an exMayor of Greymouth, in the recent aeroplane crash, was referred to at last evening’s meeting of the Borough Council by the Mayor (Mr J. W. Greenslade), who stated that the loss of Mr Lynch was deplored by the town and district. It was decided to express deep sympathy with Mrs Lynch and family; also with the relatives of the* late Pilot J. B. Renton.
The death occurred at his residence, Reefton, last night, with unexpected Suddenness, of Mr William Kirwan, aged 72 years. A native of County Waterford, he had been a resident in /New Zealand for over fifty years, and had lived in Reefton most of that period. He was in his youth a wellknown miner, and discovered Kirwan’s Reward,” thirty-seven years ago, a very profitable area of rich quartz in the Capleston district. He had an extensive knowledge of all mining areas in the Inangahua district. He is survived by his widow. . The time for the funeral could not be arranged, to-day, as advice is being awaited from relatives.
Mr D. J. Wilson has been appointed master in commercial subjects at St. Andrew’s College, Christchurch. The position is a part-time one. Mr Wilson, who is 22 years of age, was educated at-the Greymouth Main School, at the Hamilton High School, and later at St. Andrew’s College, and Canterbury University College. He is now studying for the degree of Bachelor of Commerce. He was a Rhodes Scholar nominee in 1932. Mr WiTson Is the third son of Mr and Mrs G. Wilson, Cowper Street, Grey- ' mouth.
Mr and Mrs J. Cody, who left yesterday, for Hastings, where they will reside, were farewelled on Wednesday evening, at the Methodist Sunda.y School Anniversary social. Eulogistic speeches were made by Rev. A. 0. Harris, Messrs I. Nelson, E. Airey, and R. J. Williams, all the speakers referring to the work of Mr' Cody as circuit steward and trust secretary, and to the value the Cody family had been to the Church. Mr Cody was presented with a set of four gramophone ' records 'of music rendered at the recent Uniin of the English Methodist Churches at Albert Hall, London, Mrs Cody with a crystal vase, and the children also received small presents. Mr Cody suitably responded.
