WIFE’S FRIEND PROBLEM. < . < < LONDON, September 27. i A husband’s right to order a man from his house against the wishes 01 • his wife, who is joint owner of the property, was questioned in a case at Watford yesterday. . John Routledge, motor-coach driver, of North-Western-avenue, Watford, was charged with assaulting hied Carter, of Horseshoejane, Garston. Carter said for the last two years there had been unhappiness because of Ul3 attention paid to his wife by Routledge, who visited the house while he was at work. On August 26, he asked Routledge to leave the house. Routledge refused, and when he went to put him out Routledge threw him (Carter) on a concrete path, injuring his wrists. Routledge denied the assault. He said 113 was a friend of the Carters, and was accustomed to walking in whenever he liked. Carter had raised no objection. On August 26, without any explanation, Carter ordered him to leave the house, and struck him. He ducked and Cartel went over his shoulder. Mrs Carter had since left her husband. Mr Matthew Arnold, for Routledge, .submitted that Carter was not entitled to order Routledge away from the house, as he was only joiut owner with his wife.
Routledge was bound over for t welve months, and ordered to pay the advocate’s fee of one guinea and 5/costs.
