OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. Clara Bow is featured in “Call Her Savage,” to be finally screened tonight. “The Sentimental Bloke” an all Australian comedy success will be screened Friday, Saturday’s matinee, and evening. The supports include Ray and Moon, Dancers, Chinese Band, Keith Desmond, Master Elocutionist, Sundowners' Quartette. Minnie Love, Character Actress, Violin Ballet, Barrier Reef ocean oddities, and last but not least, a George Wallace comedy. Patrons would be well advised to'reserve at Denne’s, late Bristol. BLACKBALL—TO-NIGHT. “The Frightened Lady” will he screened at Blackball to-night. “BETTY.” After appearing at Hokitika for two nights to capacity houses, the Hokitika Amateur Operatic Society will appear in the Town Hall this evening at 8 o’clock, in their presentation of the musical comedy “Betty.” The Society scored an instant success at Hokitika, and having overcome all the initial difficulties of the play, will be on the very top of their form this evening. The principal characters are as follows: Gerard, Mr A. E. Perry; Duke of Crowborough, Dr T. W. J. Childs; Lord piayne, Mr F. McCabe; Chiquette, Miss N. Chesterman; Jotte, Mr C. Brooks; Lady Playne, Miss B. Evans; Estelle, Miss N. Brooks, and Betty, Miss Anne Duff. In addition there is a very strong supporting chorus of forty voices and the ballets are snappy and well executed. The incidental music is supplied by an orchestra the members being: First violin, Mrs H. J. W. Knights, Messrs C. Ross and P. Goodfellow; second violin, Messrs J. Sweeney and Thorpe; ’cello, Mr C. Moss; cornet, Mr D. Christionsen; clarionet, Mr E. Moss; drums, Mr G. Collett; pianiste, Miss Marie Giese. The music is under the conductorship of Mr W. Lindsay, whilst Miss Anne Duff is responsible for the production as a whole. The net proceeds are to be handed over to the Grey Competitions Society. FIRE BRIGADES. On McGinley Green, Boundary Street, on Saturday next, commencing at 9 o’clock, the West Coast Fire Brigades will hold a Demonstration, when a very keen contest is expected. The prizes, which are in John Burns shop window comprise the One-man Browning Cup, Two-men Rose Cup, Three-men Otira Citizen’s Cup, Threemen Powley Memorial Cup, Five-men Benyon Memorial Cup, Five-men Thompson Shield, and Grogan Shield. Russell Aggregate Shield, five medals presented by John Burns and Co., three gold medals presented by Messrs H. Steel, J. McLeod, and Robert Ford. In addition, the Greymouth Brigade are donating £3O. To-mor-row (Friday) evening, a dance will be held in Schaef’s Hall, to welcome the visitors. Granted fine weather, the firemen should have a successful gathering. PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY. Mr Hubert Carter, New Zealand's leading tenor, will be the principal vocalist in the Philharmonic Society’s presentation of “Judas Maccabeaus.” to be held at the Town Hall, Mondaynext. Greymouth music lovers will have the opportunity of hearing an artist who has made such a name for himself in Nev/ Zealand and also abroad, with bis wonderful voice and perfect artistry. Miss Ada Lynn, Hokitika, who made such a. favourable impression at the Society's last performance, has also been engaged to sing an important role. The assisting artists are Mrs C. Moss, Miss N. Hopkins, Misses N. Palmer. L. Fuller, and Messrs R. Smith, A. Aims, and F. Smith. There will be a choir of forty members, and an orchestra of eighteen instrumentalists. Mr C. Staffan, who was well and popularly known as a musician in Greymouth some years ago, makes his re-appearance on Monday night, as the conductor of the Society. The box plan is now open at Denne’s, late Bristol.
