TENNIS

BRITISH CAPTAIN’S ESTIMATE

[by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]

FREMANTLE, October 31

The liner Orford arrived to-day from London. Mr G. P. Hughes, captain of the British tennis team, is a passenger. Interviewed, he said: “As regards Crawford, he is the finest singles playei' in the world. He has not a weakness, but he has more than his share of bad days.’

He thinks that Quist and Turnbull, with a little more experience, will be a really tough proposition for any pair in the world. Mr Hughes condemns shorts for tennis and considers them to be inelegant. He is looking forward to a reunion with the other British tennis players now in New Zealand.
