CHRISTCHURCH, October 28
Referring to the cycling dispute, Mr. J. Sturrock, Chairman of the Council of Wheelmen, said that as a. result of a telephonic conversation with Wellington, to-day, ho had authority from Mr. A. C. Kitto, President of the Welling-, ton Amateur Cycling Centre, to say; the New Zealand Cycling Council was? prepared to drop out and let the Lea-, gue carry on, and that the Wellington. 1 Amateur Athletic Centro believed the! League’s proposals were fair and reasonable, Wellington Centre was prepared wholly to support the League.
ATHLETICS WELLINGTON, October 30. Advice was received to-day by M». Tracy, secretary of the New Zealand
Amateur Athletic Association, stating that E. W. Barwick, Tasmanian distance runner, J. C. Horsfall, Victorian sprinter, J. P. Metcalf of Sydney, the noted jumper, have accepted an invitation to tour New Zealand, next February.
BASKETBALL. At a meeting held in the Blake--1 town Gymnasium, it was decided to j form a club, to be called the Blaketown Girls’ Basketball Club. There was an enthusiastic attendance, and 20 girls were enrolled as playing members. Mr P. Coll was elected President, Mrs Reeves, treasurer, and Mrs Kroening, secretary.
