GRAIN AND PRODUCE [per press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, October 27. The conference of grain merchants in Wellington, this week, interrupted business to some extent. Markets have remained firm and there is a continuance of export of small seeds. An estimate of the quantity of ryegrass shipped so far this season, is 800 tons. This will make a good clearance of supplies before next season’s crop comes on the market, and this at present does not look as if it will be heavy. Ordinary quality seed is quoted up to 2/6 bushel; good clean 2/9. Cocksfoot is worth 6d a lb., and 5d for Plains’. Cowgrass 8d to 9d. and white clover lOd to 12d. So far there has been no report of" these products. A slightly better demand has come from abroad for dogstail -which is quoted at 8d lb. Chewings fescue has been sold for export at 5d lb. Small lots of potatoes, mostly Dakotas, are going to Wellington, but as Auckland new potatoes are arriving in larger quantities, the season for old potatoes is not likely to continue much longer.
