Over a thousand imprisoned for various offences, have been granted an amnesty, in connection with the tenth anniversary of the Turkish Republic celebration, which starts on October 29.
WOOL’S SUPREMACY.
LONDON, October 27.
Professor King, in his inaugural lecture at Leeds University, where he has been appointed to the Chair of Textile Industries, declared that no synthetic equivalent would ever oust wool.
IRAQ ASSYRIANS.
GENEVA, October 27.
A message from the Iraqi Foreign Minister, Nuri Pasha , stated that he has received alarming reports that 400 armed Assyrians are seeking to cross the Tigris to Syria. He immediately warned the League Secret-ary-General, and the French authorities, of the danger thereof, and that the Iraq Government would not be responsible for anything that happened.

LONDON, October 27.
Mr. McGovern, M.P., declaring that he has fresh information concerning Lieutenant Baillie Stewart, including the spy, Marie Louise’s address, indicates that the charges resulted in a frame up. He will ask questions in Parliament thereon in November.

The “Morning Post’s” political correspondent learns that the Government intends, iu the near future, to make an important restatement of the British disarmament policy.
ULSTER M.P. SHOT.
LONDON, October 27. Major J. 11. McCormick, a member of the Northern Ireland Parliament, when going home in Belfast, was held up by two men, and ordered to put up his hands. Instead he struck one on the head with a walking stick, this resulting in a struggle, in which three shots were fired, wounding McCormick once in the arm, but not seriously. McCormick had persistently questioned the Ulster Ministers concerning measures against the Republican Army.
