DANCE MUSIC BY PEER

RECORDS FROM OLD CASTLE. A centuries-old Scottish castle has become the scene of a modern industry, and the laird','scion of an ancient Highland family, is engaged in directing the venture.

Gramophone records 'are now being made in a building at the Megginch Castle, Perthshire, by means of a recording plant perfected by the owner of the estate, Mr. .John Drummond. Apart from the romantic character of (lie enterprise, the choice of music and the. fame of artistes recording are expected to ensure' an immediate success for lhe experiment, especially in view of its peculiarly Scottish element and appeal. Scottish performers ami Scottish songs and music are featured throughout on the records. Tommy Lome, the famous Scottish comedian, is to record shortly; and other notable Scottish artistes have already done so. Among modern dance numbers recorded are two played by an Edinburgh orchestra and composed by the Earl of Lauderdale, a Scottish peer woh has acquired a great reputation for his songs and dance music. One of the most interesting features of this enterprise, which, aims at fostering Scottish art and music, as well as providing Scotland with a new industry, is the intention of the promoters to arrange for recording bylocal singers and players of repute in various districts, with a view to providing such areas with records peculiarly their own.
