INSULT TO UNION JACK

A PERSIAN APOLOGY [BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.] , RUGBY, September 16. An answer was received from the Persian Government regarding an incident at Basidu in Kishm Island, Persian Gulf, where recenty some Persian naval officers landed, and pulled down the Union Jack.

Basidu has been in British occeupation for a hundred years, and in response to a protest by the British Government, assurance was given by the Persian Government .that the action was quite unauthorised. Regrets at the officers’ behaviour were expressed. The Union Jack was replaced in position by the British Navy. A visit is, at present, being paid to the friendly Sheiks of the Southern Persian Gulf, By the destroyer flotilla of the Mediterranean Fleet.
