GREYMOUTH v. HOKITIKA. . A friendly match took place in St. John’s Hall last evening, when a team from Hokitika played St. John’s Gj’eymouth, Hokitika winning 9 games to Greymouth’s 3. The games were full of interest, .and in some cases close and exciting, especially in the top doubles. The arrangements w r ere in the hands of St. John’s, who' carried out. their duties splendidly. Supper was supplied by the ladies, who had tastefully decorated the tables in ' the kindergarten hall. In the absence of the President, Rev. H. R. Fell, Mr V. I>. Stevens congratulated the Hokitika’team on their fine effort. The match had . proved very satisfactory, and it looked as though everybody had thoroughly enjoyed it. The interest and enthusiasm shown should help to start new clubs on the Coast, this would give the players more scope for competition. Dr. Oakey, captain of the Hokitika team replied, thanking the Greymouth Club for their -welcome, and game. Even although the scores were 9-3 in favour of Hokitika, the games were very even, and he felt sure that when Greymouth journeyed to Hokitika to play a return match, the scores would be more even. He thanked Greymouth for the good time they had given them, they had enjoyed it, and hoped the Greymouth players would enjoy the visit to Hokitika.
