WOMEN BOUND WITH WIRE. NEW’ YORK. July S. rive bandits—one wearing a. police man’s uniform—entered the Corn Ex change Bank in 110th Street, New Xork Ci.y, this morning and escaped with :• sum ranging between £5OOO and £6OOO. It was one of the smartest robberies ever perpetrated here. The negro porter, much impressed by the policeman s uniform, opened the door of the bank just before business hours, and the task of tieing un the fifteen employees. unlocking the vault, and eseaping took just thirty minutes. The employees, ten of them women, were bound with wire at the ankles and wrists. The robbers were unable to open the vault, so they waited until Paul Miller, the assistant manager. arrived. He complied with their demand. The bandits stuffed two black bags with
.currency, walked leisurely to their (waiting motor-car, and drove off at a { top speed. I The women employees were hysterical when relief arrived. They said every man of the quintet was armed with a big revolver, which he poked into the victims’ ribs in order Io expedite their movements. One woman said the bank robbers were very gentlemanly in appearance, spoko softly, and apologised for giving so much trouble. Au effort was made to herd the employees into the vault and lock the door. But on the protests of the women, who sobbed and declared that they would be suffocated, they were driven into a passage and tied to posts.
