The death has occurred at Auckland of Mr H. Howard, of Blenheim where he was formerly manager' of the Colonial Bank. —Press Assn.

Mr. Richard Wedderspoon, of Wanganui, who has been spending a holiday with his daughter, Mrs. Stanley Ashton, will return to-morrow.

Mr. J. Cassells, of the Bank of New Zealand staff, Greymouth, returned yesterday, from a holiday visit to Riverton. He was accompanied by Airs. Cassells.

A message from Norfolk Island announced the death of Mrs. Rachael Hope Taylor, at the age of 84 years. She was a descendant of one of the original settlers of the Pitcairn Islands.

Votes of condolence with the relations of the late Mrs C. McPherson, Mr. W. Bullimore and Mrs J. M. Lamont. were passed, at last evening’s meeting of the Greymouth Harbour Board.

The death occurred at the Grey Hospital, last evening, of Amos Smith, son of Mr and Mrs Frank B. Smith, of Ahaura, at the age of seven years and eight months. He had been ailing for three weeks from pneumonia. The interment take place at Ahaura on Friday.

Fitting’ tributes to his life work of outstanding service to Nelson College, were paid to C. H. Broad, retiring principal, at a largely attended old boys’ social in the College dining hall last evening. A presentation was made on behalf of the Old Boys’ Association. Opportunity was also taken to welcome the new principal, Mr. H. V. Searle who takes over next term. — Press Assn.

The death took place this morning, at Wellington, of Mrs Alice Brown, wife of George Brown late of Blackball. The deceased was a daughter of the late Richard Gregory of Brunner and is survived by one brother William John Gregory of Ahaura, and three sisters, Mrs James Ward, Ahaura, Mrs E. Collins, Wellington, and Mrs R. Smith, Brumfrer. Deceased was a member of one of the earliest families to settle in Brunner and her father worked Darkey's Terrace on the North Beach, with the discoverer of the claim.

The death occurred at the residence of her daughter, Dobson, last night, of Mrs Agnes Hall, aged 84 years, after a brief illness. She was born at Carluke. Lanarkshire, Scotland, and was predeceased by her husband some forty years ago. The deceased had been a resident of Brunner and Runanga, (where she resided for 30 years) since her arrival in New Zealand 46 years ago. She leaves one son Charles, of Dobson, and two daughters, Mrs Liddle, Nelson, and Miss Mary Hall, Dobson. There are seven grandchildren. Her eldest son, David, was killed in the Brunner explosion in 189 G, and another son, William, was one of the victims of the Eggers tragedy, in 1917. The interment will be private, at Stillwater.

At the conclusion of the day’s business yesterday, Mr T. B. Baty, of the firm of T. B. Baty, Ltd., presented Miss Alma Leahy, who has been a member of the office staff during the past eight years, with a mounted illuminated testimonial. Mr Baty made eulogistic reference to Miss Leahy’s valued services to the firm, and wished her every happiness in her wedded ’life. Mr W. A. Clarke, on behalf of the office staff, and Mr D. A. Cowan, for the workshop and garage staff also extended best wishes to Miss Leahy, whose marriage will take place next week.. Last evening, at the residence of Mrs W. Fletcher, Cowper Street, Miss Leahy was. the guest at a. pantry evening, receiving many useful gifts.

Mrs Harriet Burnett, wife of Mr H. B. Burnett, Superintendent of the Auckland Harbour Board (and formerly secretary of the Grey mouth Harbour Board) died at her residence, Great South Road, Remuera. last evening. Mrs Burnett was a daughter of the late Hon. James Kerr, who from 1892 to the time of his death in 1901, represented the West Coast in the Legislative Council. Mrs Burnett had been well known for her church and philanthropic work for over 20 years. She had been an energetic worker at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, Remuera, and had been prominently associated with the Y.W.C.A. as member of the Board of Directors, and of the House Committee. She was also a leading member of the Remuera Croquet Club. The deceased, who was a native of Greymouth, is survived by five sons, James, Noel, Duncan, William (Auckland), and Harold (Dunedin); and two daughters, Misses Anne, and Hetti Burnett, of Auckland. Mrs J. McKenzie (Cowper Street), Misses Kerr (Tainui Street), Mrs Craig (Rotokohu), Mrs W. Yates (Christchurch), and Mrs Milne (Auckland) are sisters, and Messrs William and James Kerr, of Petone, are brothers of the deceased.
