BOXING

BLAY DEFEATS DELANEY. [by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Recd. August 15, 8 a.m) SYDNEY, August 14. At the Stadium, in a 15 rounds bout, Bobby Blay defeated Bobby Delaney in the seventh round, by a technical knockout. It was a willing contest while it lasted. There was a large house, as this pair make a big draw card, and have provided thrilling bouts at former meetings. GREYMOUTH ASSN. MEETING. A meeting of the Greymouth Boxing Association was held last evening, there being present Messrs A. Beban (chairman), J. Crooks, J. McLeod, A. White, K. Williams, F. Costello, A. Marshall, C. Neville, F. H. Denton, L. D. McGlashan, and F. AV. Baillie (secretary).

A deputation from the recentlyformed Technical School Boxing Club, Messrs IT. Mathieson, E. H. Kibble, and H. Rattray, waited on the Association and asked that assistance be given the club in the conducting of tournaments

and' in the matter of gloves, etc. It was stated that Mr Sterling, of Cobden, was instructor to the club, at the inaugural meeting, of which there were 46 present. The Association assured the deputation that they would do all they could to assist the club.

The following were selected to represent the West Coast at the New Zealand championships at Blenheim on September 7, 8 and 9:—W. Hawes (featherweight), M. Howson (middle), and F. Bell (light-heavy). Mr A. Pratt was appointed trainer, and Mr K. Williams, manager. It was decided that Mr A. Behan’s name be forwarded to the New Zealand Council as a referee for the New Zealand championships.

Messrs McGlashan and Behan were appointed the West (’oast delegates to the aim mil meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Council, held in conjunction with the championships. Mr M. E. Spiers wrote, donating a silver cup to be awarded to the most scientific boxer at. the West Coast championships each year.—lt was decided that a letter of appreciation be sent to Mr Spiers for his generous donation.
